Have you ever argued with someone for such a long time that you’ve forgotten the reason for arguing in the first place? That is the situation between our two main leads – Payton Kendall, a strong advocate for women’s rights and her rival J.D Jameson, a rich, smart, cocky and – in Payton’s opinion, spoiled asshole who only rose to the top mainly because he’s a guy with lots of connections. These two top-notch lawyers are nearing the finishing line to be made partner at the firm, after eight years of hard work, and eight years of being civil to one another in the office. The finishing line is so near – yet so far, and a final case – worth hundreds of millions- that both of them have to accept in order to remain in the running to become a partner at the firm.
What they didn’t expect… was the fact that this case would require both of them to work together. Through this final case, Payton and J.D have to get over all their prejudices against one another to form a team with a solid front to get their client to pick them to represent the company.
As we know, once you get past the prejudices, you’ll start to see qualities that you can appreciate, and this… is when sparks will sizzle and you may discover that the rival might not be so bad after all…
While this is the first novel by Julie James that I’ve read, and only her second novel written, this story has managed to captivate me with her witty dialogues and strong characters that allowed for an entertaining read. The hilarious pranks they pull on each other and the reason they piss each other off is more than enough reason to pick up this book and start reading.
Worth the read, especially if you’re looking for a good laugh.
